With the help of my dad (Harry) we found some new plants to conceal some of the exterior supports of the deck.
The nursery where we bought the grass calls it "Eaton Canyon Grass" and charges $22/pot. Lowe's sells "Purple Fountain Grass" for $10/pot. Why are we such suckers?

worry, you guys aren't suckers. Grass is like wine, subtle variations in climate and terrain make a huge difference in quality. Living right near Washington Square Park, I have a unique opportunity to experience a variety of different types of grass, and I can tell you its definitely worthwhile to spending a little extra to get something a little special. After all, there's nothing that says summer like the smell of fresh grass.
